And She Did…

By Sara Spring

The young woman entered the hospital’s emergency room dressed in a business suit and heels, with a long thin pencil protruding from her left eye. As she blinked the pencil bobbed up and down.

Walking to her with a clipboard in hand, I asked how this pencil came to be lodged in her eye. Calmly, she responded. “I stuck the pencil in my eye.”

Taken aback, I pried for more information. “Why would you do that?”

“To prove my point that it would be more fun than working with the people in my office.”

“Having fun?”

Fixing me in a strong gaze with her right eye she replied flatly, “So far.”

I hope the young woman is no longer working in that office, and my suggestion to her is……….to have more drinks on tropical beaches – but maybe not drinks with umbrellas attached to long wooden sticks in them.
